SOUTH COAST PLAZA

THE NEW STORES EDIT

Courrèges

Level 2, Din Tai Fung Wing

Visionary French couturier André Courrèges and his wife Coqueline founded their namesake fashion brand Courrèges in Paris in 1961 and helped to create the Mod futuristic look of that decade. Courrèges is known for its iconic go-go boot and is credited, alongside Mary Quant, for inventing the miniskirt, while trademarks include the color white, minimalist designs and geometric lines. Since 2020, Nicolas Di Felice has served as the artistic director, carrying on the Courrèges legacy with a contemporary spin on house codes and a buzzy following that includes Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber.  In the ’60s, style icons such as Brigitte Bardot, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Catherine Deneuve were devoted clients. This 1200-square-foot store marks the French luxury brand’s second retail location in the U.S. (following a store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood that opened in 2022, a return to the U.S. after decades) and also marks a deja vu moment, given that the brand originally opened a store at Costa Mesa nearly 50 years ago, in 1975. Like the brand’s other boutiques, the design by Belgian architect Bernard Dubois has a modernist feel with chrome pillars, mirrored ceilings and a clean white palette. It houses the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, accessories and jewelry.

Amiri

Level 2, Carousel Court

In 2014, Los Angeles-based fashion designer Mike Amiri debuted his eponymous brand of relaxed, upscale menswear that draws on music and L.A. culture for inspiration, while delivering couture-like craftsmanship. Womenswear, footwear and accessories were added to the mix in 2016. Travis Kelce notably stepped out en route to the 2024 Super Bowl in a black sequin-embellished bouclé plaid blazer and matching kick flare pants by Amiri. Barry Keoghan, Lenny Kravitz, Ryan Gosling and Rihanna are other famous fans of the label. With an iceberg blue marble facade, the 3,000-square-foot store at South Coast Plaza, designed by Mike Amiri in collaboration with the architectural firm Two One Two Design, is the second location in California alongside the Rodeo Drive flagship. Highlights of the interiors include white oak furniture, colorful onyx accents, and a mix of luxe textures such as mohair and velvet. The boutique offers the label’s range of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, kidswear, footwear and accessories, including special limited-edition pieces. A gallery showcases objects curated by Amiri, as well as custom work by artists Jason Revok and Oksana Schön.

Jacques Marie Mage

Level 1, Saks Fifth Avenue Wing

Another Los Angeles-based  luxury company to recently set up shop is the chic, limited-edition eyewear and accessories label Jacques Marie Mage, founded in 2014 by Jerome Jacques Marie Mage, who originally hails from France. The artisanal eyewear is designed in L.A., handcrafted by artisans at a family-owned business in Japan in a 300-step process that spans over 18 months, and then issued in limited runs to create “modern heirlooms.” The covetable, sculptural frames are crafted from premium cellulose acetate or streamlined titanium and have graced the faces of  Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, Lebron James, Margot Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio. The process is all about quality, while scarcity makes each pair a collectible. Grounded in classic silhouettes, design inspiration ranges from Art Deco to Old Hollywood to The American West, and the label often collaborates with like-minded designers, artists and personalities. Jacques Marie Mage recently introduced a new Circa Leather Collection of limited-edition card holders and coin pouches, handcrafted in Italy from veg tan calf leather and sustainable ostrich leather with custom lambskin lining. A limited-run, handcrafted jewelry line draws inspiration from the Southwestern U.S.A curation of eyewear, jewelry and leather goods are available at South Coast Plaza. The design of the new Costa Mesa “gallery” fuses California modernism with Japanese minimalism. Interiors include Navajo rugs, furniture handcrafted in Paris from rare woods by Hervet Manufacturier, Acona pottery by Marietta P. Juanico, paintings by artists Connor Tingley and Matt McCormick, and a garden filled with plants and cactii native to Joshua Tree National Park.

Mejuri

Level 2, Bloomingdale’s Wing

Led by CEO and co-founder Noura Sakkijha, the Toronto-based “everyday fine jewelry” brand Mejuri launched in 2015 with a direct-to-consumer model to make high-quality pieces more affordable and accessible. The label expanded into men’s jewelry in 2020 and a lab-grown diamond collection debuted in December 2023. Known for its versatile, stackable and customizable jewelry, Mejuri’s minimalist designs nod to quiet luxury and are loved by the likes of Taylor Swift, Sydney Sweeney, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. Each week, the company releases new designs in limited quantities, so there is always something new to explore. Piercing appointments and complimentary styling appointments (with tips on stacking) are available at the South Coast Plaza store and can be booked online at mejuri.com.
