The 1966 documentary “The Endless Summer,” following two surfers traveling the globe chasing the perfect wave, is an enduring ode to freedom and adventure, with some lovingly goofy commentary as well.

The poster designed by SoCal graphic artist John Van Hamersveld, which is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, is also iconic. It features a trio of surfers, boards hoisted above their heads, silhouetted in neon pink and orange – a snapshot taken at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, which will be familiar to those lucky enough to live in the land of endless sunshine.
