Fall/Winter Trend Report

 

 

With the arrival of fall  and winter on the way come the best of cold weather style. Here, key trends for the seasons: tweed, combat boots, quilting, double-breasted jackets and coats, statement knits, neon, not-the-usual leather and modern florals.

 

 

Tweed

 

Chanel offered a new twist on its classic tweed sets with longer hemlines and roomy silhouettes, while Prada showcased midi dresses. At Louis Vuitton, the Mini Dauphine handbag has been reinvigorated in black tweed with multi-colored flecks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Combat Boots

 

Prada is a front-runner in the lug sole boot game, featuring patent leather combat boots in vibrant colors, as well as tall boots with what can only be described as utilitarian “ankle packs.” TOD’s showcased classic versions of the trend. The boots are a perfect mix of chic, edgy and extremely comfortable.   

 

 

       

 

Quilting

 

Who wouldn’t want to wear a blanket as fashion? Quilting is perhaps the most functional trend for the season, from belted trenches to shoes and dresses.  Balenciaga featured robe-like puffed coats in a variety of shades, including vibrant turquoise, while Bottega Veneta showed an assortment of quilted items – high heels, coats and even skirts. 

 

 

 

     

 

 

 

Double-Breasted

 

The double breasted  style, that timeless look with parallel columns of vertical buttons, has come roaring back in jacket and coats. Gucci featured several double-breasted coats, including a retro wool style covered in the iconic double G logo. Others which showcased the trend were Alexander McQueen, Dior, and Balenciaga.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Statement Knits

 

From Stella McCartney’s eclectic, multicolored fringed knit dress to Valentino’s graphic art-inspired sweaters, it’s clear that simple cozy minimalism is on hold with fall knits. At Gucci, sweaters had funky prints and cartoonish patterns. Max Mara featured thick, low gauge textures and chin-high turtlenecks. Look for an electric color palette, eccentric pattern or messy-chic style.

Neon and Other Brights

 

 

.Highlighter-bright shades might seem an unlikely choice for fall. But Saint Laurent showed that they are a  powerful and electrifying look that transcends seasons when  neon ensembles glowed in the dark under UV lights during the runway show. Versace and Balenciaga pumped up the glamour with monochromatic ensembles. Valentino and Saint Laurent even blended neon with feathers to create head-turning looks. 

 

     

 

 

 

Modern Florals

 

Away with cute daisies and buds of cheerful hues. Modern, sometimes moody, florals are all the rage, especially against a dark background. Some evoke a splintered sense of dark romance and boss-woman femininity. Interpretations included  three-dimensional roses at Prada, dreamy, abstract floral details at Chloe and micro-floral prints from Louis Vuitton and Givenchy. Whether featured in a floaty blouse or an edgy slip dress, wear this trend with your favorite pair of leather boots.

    

 

 

 

 

 

Not the Usual Leather

 

Jumpsuits and long skirts are the new way to wear leather. Go for glossy, patent looks or soft supple finishes. Pick from the season’s major hues –  butterscotch, pumpkin, burgundy, brick, cranberry or plum or choose green and blue brights.
