(Costa Mesa, Calif. – April 3, 2016) South Coast Plaza was the exclusive venue of the spring/summer ’16 collection show presented by designer Anne Fontaine on Thursday evening.
More than 200 people attended the unprecedented event — Fontaine’s first comprehensive runway presentation on the West Coast. The show took place in the luxury shopping destination’s Jewel Court and was preceded by a Champagne reception. After the runway presentation, guests met with the designer and selected from the collection at the Anne Fontaine boutique. A private dinner attended by 40 guests and hosted by South Coast Plaza for Fontaine and chief executive Ari Zlotkin at Marché Moderne capped the evening.
On the runway, nature was the source of inspiration for the collection, with elements such as netting, patterns of smoke, embroidery, lace in geometric motifs, pleating and leather. White shirts, the iconic mainstay for the brand, were trimmed with black or embellished with ruffles or rosettes. Navy and bursts of bright hues accented a palette of neutrals – white, black and sand. Silhouettes were soft and graceful, from A-line skirts and shoulder-baring blouses to culottes.
To complement the collection, the look from MAC Cosmetics was fresh-faced with muted coral lips framed by long and soft waves designed by the Sassoon Salon creative team. Both MAC Cosmetics and Sassoon Salon are retailers at the shopping destination.
On choosing South Coast Plaza as the location for its major presentation, Fontaine said, “We have a long story with South Coast Plaza — the Segerstrom family sought us. This is one of the first locations that we opened in the U.S. and we’ve found that the mix of brands is wonderful. The customer here has a passion for fashion and that’s very important to us.”
South Coast Plaza has a long-standing reputation for partnering with its luxury and contemporary retailers for large-scale fashion and style events and museum-quality exhibitions. Last year, the center co-hosted with MAC Cosmetics a one-of-a-kind exhibition of Guo Pei’s haute couture dresses. In previous years, MaxMara and Dior have chosen South Coast Plaza’s Jewel Court as the venue for retrospectives. With sales approaching $2 billion, the leading global luxury shopping center continues to foster creative collaborations with its retailers.
