Bowers Museum Presents a Captivating Special Installation at Jewel Court, South Coast Plaza

Santa Ana, California, August 1, 2023 — Bowers Museum is delighted to announce a very special installation at Jewel Court in South Coast Plaza, captivating visitors from July 29 to August 31, 2023. The Museum is set to showcase an exquisite selection of objects from its renowned permanent collection, complemented by a stunning wrap unveiling their highly anticipated fall exhibitions, The Power of Photography and Beyond the Great Wave: Works by Hokusai from the British Museum.

Jewel Court, renowned for its elegance and luxurious ambiance, will serve as the perfect backdrop to host this exclusive collaboration between Bowers Museum and South Coast Plaza. With its commitment to celebrating art and culture, this installation with Bowers Museum marks an important milestone in their ongoing partnership.

This special installation includes a display which offers a taste of Bowers Museum’s permanent collection of over 100,000 objects from all around the globe. From painted Japanese ceramics to sleek shell currency rings and colorful headdresses from New Guinea, Imperial Chinese bridal wear, and one of the first Oscars ever made on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, visitors are sure to be delighted. 

In addition to the captivating display, a breathtaking wrap will be unveiled, announcing the museum’s upcoming fall exhibitions. The Power of Photography will feature a selection of over 70 iconic original prints which were compiled by the pioneering collector and gallerist Peter Fetterman, on view at Bowers Museum October 7, 2023 – January 14, 2024.

Opening weeks later this fall at Bowers Museum, Beyond the Great Wave: Works by Hokusai from the British Museum will include a beautiful early example of Katsushika Hokusai’s (Japanese, 1760-1849) The Great Wave and venture beyond to feature a broad selection of works that Hokusai produced right up to his death at the age of 90. The exhibition will be on view October 21, 2023 – January 7, 2024.

The presentation of this exhibition is a collaboration between the British Museum and the Bowers Museum.
