Bowers Museum presents exquisite installation from their private collection in South Coast Plaza’s Jewel Court

Bowers Museum and South Coast Plaza have joined to present a special installation in Jewel Court at South Coast Plaza for visitors to enjoy through August 31. The museum has showcased an exquisite selection of objects from its renowned permanent collection, complemented by a stunning wrap unveiling their highly anticipated fall exhibitions, The Power of Photography and Beyond the Great Wave: Works by Hokusai from the British Museum.
Jewel Court, renowned for its elegance and luxurious ambience, serve as the perfect backdrop while hosting this exclusive collaboration. The display offers a taste of Bowers Museum’s permanent collection of more than 100,000 objects from all around the globe. From painted Japanese ceramics to sleek shell currency rings and colorful headdresses from New Guinea, Imperial Chinese bridal wear, and one of the first Oscars ever made on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, visitors are sure to be delighted.
In addition to the captivating display, a breathtaking wrap announces the museum’s upcoming fall exhibitions. The Power of Photography will feature a selection of more than 70 iconic original prints which were compiled by the pioneering collector and gallerist Peter Fetterman, that will be on view at Bowers Museum from October 7 through January 14, 2024.
The Power of Photography is organized by Photographic Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles and is sponsored by The Ronald C. and Kristine Pietersma Family Trust.
Opening weeks later, also at Bowers Museum, will be Beyond the Great Wave: Works by Hokusai from the British Museum. It will include a beautiful early example of Katsushika Hokusai’s (Japanese, 1760-1849) The Great Wave and venture beyond to feature a broad selection of works that Hokusai produced right up to his death at the age of 90. The exhibition will be on view at Bowers from October 21 through January 7, 2024.
