Q&A with L*Space’s Monica Wise

Everything But Water‘s newest exclusive capsule collection, a collaboration between L*Space and blogger Becca Tilley, embodies a California summer with its clean lines and fun color-blocking.  Corona del Mar-based L*Space founder, owner and designer Monica Wise tells us the inspiration behind the collection and more:

When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

As soon as I turned 18, I moved to Florida and swimwear became a staple in my wardrobe. I often spent entire weekends in a bikini. After receiving a custom swimsuit as a birthday gift, I was motivated to take a stab at designing them myself.

Where did the name L*Space come from?

Everything that ‘s important to me professionally and personally started with the letter L: love, laughter, lounging on the beach, and living the life I envisioned. Space came from the idea that I was creating a space for these things that fulfilled me.

What’s the inspiration for this capsule collection?

We wanted to create a collection by working with colors that trigger emotions. This capsule collection includes bronze and lavender shades which are associated with happiness, freedom and optimism. We love working with color combinations that are unexpected, yet flattering on all skin and body types.

L*Space is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. How have you seen women’s attitudes towards swimwear change in that time?

Right now women feel empowered to slip on a swimsuit and own it. Our focus is on building confidence with an impeccable fit. When a swimsuit fits well, you feel good.
